NIT Jamshedpur Overview
Jamshedpur (NIT Jamshedpur or NITJSR) is known as an Institute of National Importance for Technical Education and is located in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, India.
It was established as a Regional Institute of Technology on August 15, 1960, and was upgraded to a
National Institute of Technology (NIT) on December 27, 2002,with the status of a Deemed University.
It is one of the 31 NITs in India, and as such, is directly under the control of the Ministry of Education (MHRD).
It is the third in the chain of eight NITs established as a part of the Second Five Year Plan (1956–61) by the Government of India.
Established on August 15th, 1960,the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Jamshedpur was a joint effort of the Government of Bihar and the Government of India.
The NIT, Jamshedpur offers courses at undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels. The institute consists of 12 departments, including humanities, science, and engineering.
There are 200 faculty, 4,000 students, and 150 administrative and support staff on the campus.
The aim of the institute is to develop students into like-minded humans who could cater to the needs of society and develop or innovate technology to help with society’s progress.
It is located on the outskirts of Jamshedpur on 325 acres of sprawling, rolling hills of wooded land.
The NIT Jamshedpur institute maintains courts for basketball, volleyball, badminton, and tennis. As per NIRF Rankings 2021, the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Jamshedpur has been ranked 90th among engineering institutions, while in 2020 the institute was ranked 79th in 2021 in the same category.
NIT Jamshedpur was formed with the vision of being one of the premier technical institutions known for its academic excellence and innovative research to meet the future needs of society.
The institute of NIT Jamshedpur offers students an array of courses that vary from undergraduate level, such as B.Tech programmes, to postgraduate courses, namely-M.Sc, M.C.A, M.Tech.

NIT Jamshedpur has failed to offer dual degree, PG integrated courses as well as PG 3-year and 6-year course programs for its students.
