IIT Kharagpur Overview
Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur was established in 1951 and this public university is located in Kharagpur, West Bengal, India. IIT Kharagpur is the first institute that is named an “Institute of National Importance.” In 1946, A committee by Jogendra Singh considered the development of higher technical institutions. Initially, Mr. Bidhan Chandra Roy, the Chief Minister of West Bengal, persuaded Jawaharlal Nehru, the first prime minister of India to establish higher technical institutions.
IIT Kharagpur was the first institution developed in 1950 at Esplanade East, Calcutta. Later, it was relocated to Hijili, Kharagpur. This institute is the fourth-oldest Indian Institute in West Bengal. The campus is sprawled around 2100 acres in Kharagpur, West Bengal. IIT Kharagpur is the most desired institution, it is the top destination for all engineering aspirants.
