The origins of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham can be traced back to 1994, when a school of engineering was established in an isolated village called Ettimadai, near the foothills of the Bouluvanpatty ranges of the Western Ghats in Tamil Nadu’s Coimbatore district. There were 120 students and 13 faculty members at the time. Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham now has five campuses in three distinct Indian states. There are over 120 undergraduate, graduate, and doctorate programs available. Amrita became the youngest group of institutions to be designated as a “Deemed to be University” in January 2003. Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham’s administrative offices are located in Coimbatore, Amrita’s first campus.
