IIT Delhi Overview
Indian Institute of technology is one of the 23 IITs developed to be the ‘centers of excellence for engineering and other platforms in India. Initially, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi was established as a ‘College of engineering in 1961. The college was affiliated with the ‘University of Delhi’ and it was formally inaugurated by prof. Humayun Kabir, Minister of scientific research and cultural affairs. Later, with the aid of the ‘Indian Institute of Technology (amendment) act – 1963’, it was renamed the ‘Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi’. Then, it started to run as an autonomous statuary institution for students. This institute has developed two more campuses which are located in two phases, one IIT Delhi in Sonepat campus and the other one is IIT Delhi in Jhajjar campus & the main campus is in Hauz Khas. Our Indian Government declared that IIT Delhi is the ‘institute of eminence’.
